In 4v4 Jedi Academy Capture the Flag (CTF), the Chase Defender (or "Chaser") is responsible for pursuing the enemy flag carrier and returning the team's flag as quickly as possible. Playing chase effectively requires strong weapon management, positioning, Force discipline, and aim.
Match Start & Weapon Priority
When the map starts, you will spawn near your base.
- Prioritize High-Damage Weapons Immediately: Your first task is to run and pick up one or two strong weapons capable of damaging players even while their lightsaber is up. Because your primary objective is to return your flag as fast as possible, the higher the damage output, the better.
- Core Chase Favorites:
- Rocket Launcher
- Imperial Heavy Repeater
- Golan Arms FC-1 Flechette Weapon
- Situational Weapons & Explosives:
- Concussion Rifle: Available on select maps; deals heavy damage and knockback, though it consumes ammo quickly.
- Detonation Packs (Detpacks): Useful when planted on your own flag stand ahead of an incoming grab.
- Core Chase Favorites:
- Leave Trip Mines to Base Defense: Do not waste time at the start of the match placing laser trip mines on your flag stand—that is your Base Defender's job.

Early Positioning & Pre-Grab Self-Kill
- Hold the Outer Edge of Your Base: After arming up, position yourself toward the outer edge of your base until you spot the first enemy offense incoming.
- Tactical Self-Kill (Respawn Force Advantage): Chasers frequently self-kill even before the enemy offense picks up the flag so they can respawn with a full pool of Force points. Having more Force points than the exiting flag carrier ensures you will not be outrun during the chase.

Mid-Map Pursuit & Force Usage
The easiest time to return your flag is before the enemy offense reaches their own base. Keep this priority in mind at all times during a chase.
- Use Force Pull and Push Judiciously:
- Use Force Pull and Force Push to disrupt the enemy flag carrier's momentum, reduce their speed, and catch them before they take off.
- Watch Out for Force Absorb: Most offense players will have Force Absorb active while escaping. Throwing predictable Pushes or Pulls into an active Absorb will feed them valuable Force points, helping them escape faster.
- Target Gap Jumps (Pit Pulls):
- Even the most careful offense player can slip and fall into a pit if hit with a well-timed Force Pull.
- The highest-percentage window to pull an escaping flag carrier is right as they jump over a gap or pit.

Recovering the Flag in the Enemy Base
If the enemy flag carrier escapes into their own base, your job becomes significantly harder:
- Overcoming Positional Disadvantage: You will have to outsmart or outskill the enemy offense to eliminate them on their home turf.
- Enemy Base Defense Support: While you respawn and run across the map to the enemy base, the enemy Base Defender ("baser") will heal and top off the flag carrier's health and Force points.
- Navigating Two Threats: You must track down and kill the enemy flag carrier while simultaneously avoiding being delayed or killed by their Base Defender.
